Wind and Water Detectives program
In the 21st century, children should be not only academically strong but
also environmentally literate. If children are not taught the importance of nature, they will not develop
environmentally friendly habits. At Gulf, we understand that emphasis should also be placed on encouraging
STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education to enable children to understand the
scientific evidence supporting the need for environmental conservation and to lay the foundation for them to
utilize technology and scientific knowledge to help protect the environment. Gulf has developed a science
camp called the Wind and Water Detectives program which uses fun, interactive activities to teach students
how to monitor air and water quality in their local environment using basic scientific techniques and
methods. The program has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from students, teachers and parents. We
have conducted the camps for several years, teaching hundreds of children in dozens of schools around the
country about the importance of monitoring and taking care of the environment.
