Gulf Energy Development Plc. welcomes
metrology experts from National Measurement Institute in Asia-Pacific region at Uthai Power Plant in
Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.
Gulf Energy Development Plc. (GULF)
hosted an open house at the Uthai Power Plant in Uthai district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya for executives
and metrology specialists from the National Institute of Metrology of Thailand and the Asia-Pacific
region. The visit allows a team of metrology professionals to gain an overview of Gulf Group’s
businesses and an outlook of energy industry in Thailand from Mr. Smith Banomyong, Chief Asset
Management & Investment Officer, GULF, where there was a productive discussion and knowledge exchanging.
In addition, the group was led on a tour to visit to the main meter installation points, such as natural
gas meters, by a team of experienced engineers who offered in-depth information and demonstrated the
efficient performance of various meters.
The excursion to the power plant is an aspect of GULF’s ongoing commitment to provide opportunities for
individuals from a range of organizations in both the public and private sectors, including educational
institutions, to acquire first-hand knowledge about electricity generation and energy system operations
from a site visit to GULF’s facilities in order to raise awareness of the current energy landscape in
Thailand, as well as to foster trust, confidence, and increase community involvement.
Mr. Anusorn Tonmueanwai, Deputy Director, the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand),
expressed
“Thank you, Gulf Group, for facilitating this power plant tour for our team. I was impressed by the
visit to the control room, where the power plant manager and his team provided detailed information, and
also led us to observe the operation of different meters. Typically, metrologists work in a laboratory,
so this is a rare opportunity to see the work up close. I am confident that the team of metrology
professionals gained some knowledge that will contribute to the future development of national energy
measurement standards.”
Dr. Ilya Budovsky, Chair of the APMP Energy Efficiency Focus Group, National Measurement Institute
Australia, shared
“It was great to see first-hand how GULF works to ensure energy supply is reliable and environmentally
sustainable. Metrologists underpin this through fit-for-purpose and internationally recognized
measurements.”
Dr. Tom Stewart, Senior Research Scientist, The Measurement Standards Laboratory of New Zealand,
stated “As a measurement scientist, it is fantastic to see the importance GULF puts
into making good measurements and the value of calibrations to ensure accuracy. It is impressive to see
the breadth of business interests, but especially the commitment to increasing renewable electricity
generation. Making good measurements that enable energy efficiency will always be worth the investment
as well. GULF is showing they are taking steps toward a better future for themselves, their customers,
and also those they impact.”
Ms. Mirola Afroze, Bangladesh Reference Institute for Chemical Measurements (BRICM),
shared “It is nice to visit the Uthai power plant here. The presentation by the management was
excellent as it gives us a clear picture of Gulf Group’s business overview and key trends in the energy
industry.”
Ms. Nibras Fitrah Yayienda, Researcher, National Standardization Agency of Indonesia,
expressed “The presentation is easy to understand. I appreciate their knowledge of energy needs in their country.”
