GULF Launched "Gulf Sparks, Life Starts", Illuminating Tung Nang Dam
Village with Solar Panel Installations to Enhance Community Quality of Life
Gulf Energy Development Plc. (GULF), a leading energy and infrastructure company in Thailand,
recognizes
the importance of equitable access to electricity, a basic and fundamental human necessity still lacking
in many parts of the country. To address this need, GULF launched “GULF Sparks, Life Starts” as
an
initiative aimed at providing solar panels to underserved communities. The pilot project included solar
panel installations at Ban Huai Nam Sai School in Phitsanulok Province, and on Tung Nang Dam Island in
Kuraburi District, Phang Nga Province, to facilitate lighting for community activities throughout the
day. Volunteer engineers from GULF also imparted knowledge on renewable energy and provided guidance on
solar panel upkeep and maintenance to community members. This effort aligns with the company’s mission,
“Powering the Future, Empowering the People”, advancing sustainable business practices and societal
well-being, while driving business growth in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and
stakeholder-engagement objectives.
Ms. A-Icha Kaewnopparat, a resident of Tung Nang Dam island, shared, “On behalf of the
community,
I
would like to express our gratitude to GULF for their care and concerns towards remote communities
and
for providing us with power source. The ‘Laoteng Learning Space’ serves as a hub where children from
the
local community can participate in educational activities centered around outdoor explorations,
collaborative studies, and group learning. Through this initiative, they now have access to
electricity
to engage in these activities around the clock. I would also like to thank GULF staff for organizing
such an informative session on energy and solar technologies. We will utilize and maintain the solar
panels properly to ensure they can function at their maximum capacity for a long period of
time.”
“GULF Sparks, Life Starts” is an endeavor to support the SDGs priorities and exercise the
company’s
commitment to elevating the quality of life in the rural areas by enabling access through
provision of
renewable energy sources, such as solar power. The installation targets communal areas and
community
centers, ensuring that community members have the capacity to engage in collective activities
with
necessary lighting throughout the day and alleviate time constraints. For instance, public
health
centers can utilize refrigerators for vaccines and medications storage, while schools can
operate
continuously without interruption which are otherwise not possible with limited electricity
access. In
addition to solar panel installations and knowledge-sharing sessions, GULF worked together with
the
locals to organize a beach cleanup at Tung Nang Dam where GULF staff educated participants on
waste
segregation, prompting environmental awareness and paving the way towards a greener community.
This
program embodies GULF’s pledges to ‘Powering the Future, Empowering the People’, underscoring
the
company’s dedication to business practices that concurrently enhance the life quality of diverse
stakeholders in Thai communities and encourage collective engagement in environmental
conservation.
