Gulf Energy Development Public Company Limited (GULF) recently organized an educational field
trip for
students and teachers from Wat Nong Thang Bun School to its agriculture learning center and
demonstration farm, adjacent to the Nong Saeng Power Plant in Saraburi Province. The immersive
experience allowed young learners to delve into the world of organic farming. They actively participated
in various agricultural activities, including rice harvesting, threshing, feeding laying hens,
collecting eggs, and creating earthworm manure for vegetable cultivation. Beyond practical experience,
workshops were conducted to teach participants how to prepare delicious organic meals using fresh
ingredients from the demonstration farm. Dishes such as omelets, stir-fried vegetables, boiled coconut
milk with lotus stems and mackerel, and Thai papaya salad were showcased. This initiative aims to
instill in young minds the principles of organic and circular farming, fostering a deeper understanding
of sustainable resource utilization and environmental conservation. By engaging students in hands-on
learning, GULF hopes to inspire the next generation of environmentally conscious individuals and
contribute to mitigating climate change.
Mr. Kornchana Meesomsak, an agriculturalist at the agriculture learning center and demonstration
farm of
Nong Saeng Power Plant in Saraburi Province, explained, “Initially, our center was a model for local
communities, demonstrating how agriculture and power plants can coexist harmoniously. Today, it has
evolved into an off-site classroom, welcoming visitors to learn about sustainable agricultural
practices. Our recent activity for children included four engaging learning stations; Traditional
Farming Experience where students learned about the farmer’s way of life by participating in rice
harvesting, milling, and kneading. Circular Agriculture: They utilized rice byproducts like rice bran
and broken rice to create chicken feed, and then collected fresh eggs from the hens. Natural
Fertilization where students gained knowledge about composting and the benefits of earthworm manure for
organic farming. Lastly, Harvest and Cook where they harvested fresh organic vegetables from the farm
and learned to prepare delicious meals using these ingredients. Through these hands-on experiences,
students gained insights into traditional, organic, and circular farming practices. GULF remains
committed to developing and improving this demonstration farm, fostering sustainable growth and learning
opportunities for the youth and community.”eflecting an increase in shareholders'
equity due to improved operational performance of the Group.
Praemai Sukthamma, a Grade 5 student at Wat Nong Tang Boon School, said, “Today, we learned about
harvesting rice, collecting chicken eggs, making vermicompost, and cooking food from organic vegetables.
I like the activity base of making chicken feed and collecting chicken eggs the most because it can be
applied to our lives at home, at school, and in the community. I would like to thank the kind staff from
GULF for organizing this knowledge base activity today. It was not only fun, but also educational.”
The Nong Saeng Power Plant’s Agriculture Learning Center and Demonstration Farm, a GULF initiative, was
established in 2015 on a 42-rai plot. This center serves as a prototype for sustainable, organic
agriculture, coexisting harmoniously with the surrounding community. For a decade, this center has been
a hub of knowledge and practice for local farmers. It promotes chemical-free, land-friendly farming
methods that reduce environmental impact and air pollution. By embracing circular economy principles,
the center generates new insights and shares them with the community, fostering sustainable agricultural
practices.
